What does your favorite color mean?
I remember when I was in college taking random psychology courses we covered a section that discussed color. I have always been somewhat fascinated by what certain things mean, in regards to personality and character traits. It has been said that music says a lot about a person, which I agree with, but I have also heard that color does as well. I was a good student but cannot recall this section in my classes. In any case, I heard someone reference color choice and psychology which sparked the urge to look it up. In case you can’t tell by this post, my favorite color is Purple.
So what does this say about me exactly?
Purple: Purples are highly individual, fastidious, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique and different. Temperamental, expansive and artistic, a Purple person may become aloof and sarcastic when misunderstood. If you chose Purple, you tend to be unconventional, tolerant and dignified, likely to achieve positions of authority.
So does this describe me? I think so. It made me wonder though. If you already knew the descriptions, would you be likely to change your answer?
What’s your favorite color?
- white
red- maroon
- pink
- orange
- yellow
- green
- blue
- blue-green (teal)
- turquoise
- lavender
- purple
- brown
- gray
- black

Blue! But, I also like hot pink and orange. And I mostly wear black. Try describing me now :-p
Oh Ann, must you be so difficult! lol. Just kidding. My favorite is purple but I rarely wear purple and have a few other colors I like. Overall purple is my fave and it sounds like yours is blue.
Soft, soothing, compassionate and caring, Blue is the color of deliberation and introspection, conservatism and duty. Patient, persevering, conscientious, sensitive and self-controlled, Blues like to be admired for their steady character and wisdom. They are faithful, but are often worriers with somewhat inflexible beliefs and can be too cautious, and suspicious of flamboyant behavior.
I’m always curious to know what people think of these “personal descriptions”. Mine was pretty accurate, I think, but my horoscopes rarely are. Does the description of blue describe you?
I change my answer to this question a lot, but blue always comes back to me as a top favorite. And based on what you say about Blues, I would think that describes me…but so does what you said about Purples.
That’s the only problem with these kind of things, all of us have the traits of different colors, but to varying degrees, and it makes me not really trust these to be completely right.
I have found bits of myself in other colors as well, but purple suits me overall I think.
mine’s Blue also…and blue-green (teal) What’s mine mean?!?
cool post!

Thanks so much!
Blue-green:
Exacting, discriminating, poised and attractive, the Blue-Green person tends to be sensitive, intellectual and refined, persevering and stable if rather detached. Blue-Greens have excellent taste, and are usually courteous and charming, capable but often refusing help or guidance.

Which one suits you? Are either an accurate description? I am always curious what people think of these things. Thanks for stopping by and reading!
I would pick the color red for myself.
Ooh ok. I was waiting to see who picked red! Let me know if this suits you.
The color of strength, health, and vitality, Red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps. Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for the warmth, strength and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures, with a zest for life.
It suits me for at least 80%. The only big point where it goes wrong is that I am not awate of my shortcomings. Since I am very self critic I can’t agree on that specific point. But besides that, yes it sounds familiar.
I love purple since- it’s so dramatic and serene. But I love yellow too
Btw, I saved your link
Well thank you. I look forward to reading your thoughts from time to time so please share them. I guess we have a lot in common if you are a lover of purple.
Sure. but mine is a more personal blog which I consider an open diary. Keep writing entries like this. It’s fun
I will.
Thanks so much for stopping in!
Even though I go through stages of such ‘n such being my favourite latest colour, red has always been my absolute favourite and I always go back to it. From what I’ve heard, red people (!!) are supposed to be passionate…yes, but aren’t lots of people passionate about something or another…D’oh – just read that someone else is a red too, so I’ll have a read up on have to say the description of Prurple people sounds not unlike me – but I’m not that keen on purple! ‘Red Traits’!!
WOW! That is very much like me – even the not so good traits! very interesting – thanks for sharing!
Wow. That’s great! I am so interested to learn how people view these descriptions. We all have good traits and bad, we are human after all. I found that purple DID describe me.
I just re-read my comments – I didn’t realise the end turned in to a jumble of un-checked errors – there you go, that’ll be the laptop’s fault – not mine!! hee hee
lol. I work off of a laptop too and COMPLETELY understand. But its okay “Red”. It is in your colors nature to blame others for mishaps. Sorry, I couldn’t help but be a smart-ass. I am purple ya know. haha
Nice excuses, you too…but wait, I’ve found more traits of mine in other colors. I want to be more ambitious, and I’m a smart-ass too most of the time. XD Forgot to mention in other comment, great post as always. ^_^
lol, thank you!
Yellow, absolutely yellow!
Yellow!
The color of happiness, wisdom and imagination, Yellow is chosen by the mentally adventurous, searching for novelty and self-fulfillment. Yellow usually goes with a sunny and shrewd personality, with a good business head and a strong sense of humor. It is the color of intellectuality and all things to do with the mind. Yellow folks are usually clear and precise thinkers who have a good opinion of their own mental capacities and who have lofty ideals. They may at times tend to shun responsibility, preferring freedom of thought and action.
Yellow is awesome! Does this sound like you?
Oh how funny! Yes, I do see a lot of myself in that description.
That’s great.
Oh, to be an aspiring yellow LOL!
One can very easily slip into a chicken/egg discussion when it comes to things like this. Furthermore, psychologists have shown in scientific studies how descriptions like these are somewhat vague (similar to ‘daily’ astrology in the newspaper) and those inclined to remember do so because it resonated with them and those who don’t regurgitate the information is because it was ‘wrong’ for them.
Don’t get me wrong – I think that there IS something to colo[u]rs and astrology, but I’m just telling you what some “science” says about it.
With Love and Gratitude,

Thanks so much for stopping by. Covered this topic in psychology class and have always found it interesting. I believe that there are reasons why people gravitate to specific colors, aromas and flavors as well. They don’t define who we are specifically. Although colors don’t have personalities themselves, its been proven in studies that people who share similar personality traits tend to find the same colors more appealing. I find it entertaining to learn stuff like this about people, but more entertaining to discover if the descriptions suit them. Its all for fun, for sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
What’s funny is that the description of purple sort of fits me. That’s right on the money when it comes to sarcasm, highly individual, witty and sensitive, with a strong desire to be unique and different.
although my favorite color is Red. What’s red mean? I think you should just do a post on all of the color’s meanings. I think everyone will love it.
Thanks so much for stopping by. We can all see a little of ourselves in every color I’m sure, I know that I do. For me, purple fit me so it was a match. I decided not to post the colors and descriptions because I wanted to get honest answers from people. May sound weird, I know, but even in color choice people can sway away from descriptions of themselves that they don’t like. Especially in a cyber world. It was just a fun way to try to get to know my readers and for them to learn a bit about me in this unconventional setting. I have one on ice cream I’ll be sharing soon.

I’ve always been drawn to golds and browns, autumn colors. I love all colors, but when I’m looking for something in particular like jewelry or a blouse or outfit or even in my decor, I find myself holding something in the gold or brown family.
Thanks for sharing Irene!
A Brown person has stamina and patience, tending to be very solid and substantial, conscientious, dependable, steady and conservative. Browns are not impulsive, and may be inarticulate and tactless but they love responsibility and are reliable and kindly. If you chose Brown, watch out for a tendency to be obstinate and inflexible.
Does this description say anything about you? I decorate my home in fall colors as well.
So what does psyche (I wrote psycho first *snort*) people say about persons whose favourite colors change all the time? Last year was yellow, at the start of this year it was pink, and right now I’m in a purple mode.
Lol. Psycho is always good!
Generally people tend to pull towards one color or another at any given time. In some cases, this color may change. One year its blue and the next its green. If it changes rather regularly, the person may have a steady balance of qualities from these particular colors.
That is what i found and I hope it answers your question. Since I’ve already posted yellow and purple, I will post pink for you. See if you can find your qualities between the three!
This color embodies the gentler qualities of Red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Women who prefer Pink tend to be maternal. Pink desires protection, special treatment and a sheltered life. Pink people require affection and like to feel loved and secure, perhaps wanting to appear delicate and fragile. Pink people tend to be charming and gentle, if a trifle indefinite.
Do you find that occasionally people don’t fit into the ideas at all? I suppose that happens with every idea like this that not everybody fits the mold. I find myself not matching with some but one or two of each of the color’s descriptions. Fun though!
I haven’t come across that yet but I’m sure its not full proof. Its a lot of fun to play with though.
Throughout my life, (dark, jungle) green has stayed at the top of my list but I pretty much wear predominantly black.; green and black is a bitchin’ mix…also explains my xBox gamertag c.c
My answer would stay the same regardless of whether I agreed with, or believed the imposed meanings or not because I like the colours based on how they make me feel and what they make me think, rather than purely just aesthetic value.
Green and black are definitely a bitchin mix for sure. My daughter is a green. I will give you both descriptions. Let me know what you think!
The color of harmony and balance, Green symbolizes hope, renewal and peace, and is usually liked by the gentle and sincere. Greens are generally frank, community-minded people, fairly sociable but preferring peace at any price. Green people can be too self-effacing, modest and patient, so they may get exploited by others. They are usually refined, civilized and reputable.
Dignified and impressive without being showy, Black people want to give the appearance of mystery, but their preference may also indicate a suppression of desires and worldly aims, suggesting hidden depths and inner longings.
