My youngest son’s birthday is a week before Christmas and this has it’s challenges. I have tried very hard every year to make sure that his birthday is its own special day, completely seperated from the holidays. This can be quite difficult. We realized early on that a “normal” birthday party was unrealistic. People tend to travel for the holiday season and because school’s winter break starts on his birthday weekend, no one is around or has the time to party. When he was little we started a birthday tradition where he gets to choose something that he wanted to do or a place that he wanted to go. We would go there as a family, he could take a friend, and we would celebrate that way. This year didn’t turn out quite as we planned it to. The events of the past couple of days are too much for one post.
It started as it usually does every year. I asked (10) a few weeks ago what he wanted to do for his birthday and who he’d like to take with him. He finally decided on going to the Adventuredome at Circus Circus. The Adventuredome is a theme park located inside of the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino on the strip. It has rollercoaster and all kinds of rides for the kids and was a perfect choice because it had been a couple of years since we had gone there. (10) said that he would like to take his best friend. When planning this trip we realized that his birthday was going to fall on a Friday and so the trip to the Adventuredome would have to wait until the next day. We still wanted to celebrate on his day with cake and ice cream though. He asked if he could have a few friends over for cake. I didn’t have a problem with that. The few friends from down the street quickly turned into a large group of people. The plans for cake turned into cake, ice cream and pizza. The quick birthday song turned into a dance party and everyone was told it would be a two hour get-together from 6-8 pm.
That was the plan……..
The hubs went to get pizza and shortly after he returned people started showing up. I turned on some music as the crowd grew. The kids got crazy and the music got louder. They all seemed to be having fun. (15)’s girlfriend (14) showed up with her family and (12)’s friend from down the street joined in on the party too. I slowly felt control slip away as these hoodlums took over my house. The hubs decided there was nothing he could do but get evidence of the take-over in case the police showed up.
When we tried to regain control of the situation, we were threatened with physical violence.
Then I realized that the only way I was going to get control of this situation was retaliation! The kids were beating eachother with random objects and I decided that it was the perfect time to take out a few of these hoodlums.
As you can clearly see, I was ganged up on. And where was the Hubs? Hiding behind a camera. Was he my knight in shining armor? Clearly not.
I may look like I am having a good time, but I am clearly scared shitless. Please note how I am backed into the TV and the children have me completely surrounded like a damn pack of wolves (or hungry zombies, I haven’t decided yet!)
The party was suppose to end at 8pm but this last shot was snapped at 10:30. They refused to leave, stole my phone and guarded the doors so I couldn’t call for help. A simple get together for an 11 year olds birthday cake and ice cream had turned into a hostile take-over. At midnight I was hoping that the loud music and gun shots would have prompted someone to call the police. Do you think they came to save me?
To be continued…………………………………..

Good grief. Pleased you survived.
LOL
barely!
Knight in shining armor…. Ha there is video evidence that you walk into that mess all on your own. Beside who’s to say the kids werent payed off or maybe hubs is enjoying some of the birthday money after promising to stay out of the way. Hhmmm I guess we’ll never know
So who paid off who? I see how it is now. What were you wanting fro Christmas exactly?
LOL, sounds like a traumatic experience – but Jill, you had the perfect opportunity to try out the Bedouin call! This would’ve cleared the room out in no time and you would be in control – no doubt :-p
I should have! I think they drugged my bottled water. I don’t have proof yet. I haven’t gotten the results back from the lab…..
Looks like 2 became 7 or 8! And how did the sofa pillows hold up? Didn’t see any stuffing come out. A true test of their durability! I’ve had days like that too, just waiting for something to break, someone to get hurt, or for hell to break loose.
I have a December birthday too on the 15th. It was challenge now and then to make sure it was kept separate from Christmas and that he wasn’t caught up in the holiday rush. He survived and isn’t any worse for wear.
Loved the video! AND THE TREE LOOKS GREAT! LOL!!
LOL, thanks so much. The sofa pillows held up pretty good. I was impressed. (15) brought out three of his decorative pillows from his room and 2 of them ripped open. We didn’t lose any stuffing though, thankfully and I just have to sew them back up!
Hahahahaha… that is sooo funny…. I was laughing out loud, the neighbours probably think I am crazy…yes I said “Think”!!!!
LOL, I actually posted a sign in the window of my apartment years ago that said “Yes, I’m a nut-job”
Gun shots huh? Oh man how I loved those 11yr old parties!!! Can’t wait to see how this came out….. Did ya’ll end up on “Cops”? Bad boys…bad boys….watcha gonna do…watcha gonna do when they come for you….
They were filming out front because we could hear the theme song but the kids wouldn’t let me near the front door or windows.
Look at the guns on that kid!
They look like pod people to me. Or zombies. Half and half?
Ooh, a hybrid? That makes so much sense to me right now!
ROFLMAO@ the first picture! A group plotting a take over if I ever saw one. Throughout the pillow fight my eyes kept getting drawn to your spinning Christmas tree, I love that thing! BTW, the last picture did resemble a zombie attack, just remember, you gotta get’em in the head. lol
In the head? I’m on it!
… and the tree just kept on spinning as if nothing was going on – it’s a miracle he didn’t went down! Curious for the rest of the story, to say the least
.
Can you believe the nerve of that tree? I was hoping it would shoot off ornaments in my defense or something. It just kept on spinning. Ugh
Awesome and great fun! I’m impressed no one knocked into the tree during that pillow fight!
Me too! I was frightened-
Lol … My baby boys birthday is on Dec 30th. 5 days after Christmas. Still he too young right now to know about birthdays but I know that this will be something I will have to deal with later.
Good idea on what to do. I will def do that.
It looks like they are orchestrating an attack on you. I am taking notes on this attack as well.
Be prepared and take notes. It’s coming. LOL
Judging by the fact you are writing this blog, I at least assume they left voluntairy or someone saved you. Still, looking at the snaps, you might just be lucky to be alive. My goodness, these kids seem to have some thirst for blood!
Don’t they? I’m so glad I have evidence of this
Well, the tree’s okay, that’s the important thing, right? … Right? XD
Sounds like you had a nice (read, deadly) day. ^^
Yes, the tree made it through and I guess that’s all that matters
LOL. this sounds fun!
It was!
[...] (10) became (11) and had a spectacular birthday celebration that lasted two days. We went on a mission to spread Christmas cheer and sent out holiday greetings to all of my “invisible friends”. The hubby and I tackled Black Friday and survived. I started to conquer and understand my childhood, which is something that I have been trying to avoid all of my adult life, and started writing my way through my life. I’ve made it through 11 posts of my journey so far, which is farther than I ever thought I’d get. I found a tremendous support group that encouraged me to start this blog to begin with. I started to write again, even if only a little. I sent something internationally for the first time! I received something internationally for the first time. I have made some wonderful blogging friends that I am extremely thankful for. (go ahead and take a bow, you know who you are) [...]
