Crossing it off the List

For all of you who haven’t noticed the Twitter button in the sidebar of my blog, Thypolar can now be found on twitter.

@Thypolar

Mr T (The Hubby) is stalking me and can be found on Twitter as well.

@HackingVegas

This little tidbit of technology info is important because of the HUGE role that twitter played in my Friday night. Friday night’s baseball practice was canceled for my oldest son, and despite his dismay we were a bit relieved to be having a night off. Our family was all “comfy-like” spread out on the couch and (12) had one of her friends spending the night. We were about to get caught up on some of our shows that are piling up on the DVR when Mr T decides to check his twitter. While he’s on his phone and scrolling. I mentioned that I had recorded the latest America’s Best Dance Crew for us to watch with the kids. It was the Katy Perry Challenge.

Mr T pauses and says “How would you like some JABBAWOCKEEZ tickets?”

Wait! What? Is this guy for real? Do I want JABBAWOCKEEZ tickets? Hell yeah I want some JABBAWOCKEEZ tickets!

JabbaWockeeZ are an all-male modern dance/hip hop crew from San Diego, California who won the first season of the reality dance competition America’s Best Dance Crew. Since winning, the group has gained greater exposure by appearing in various music videos and commercials, touring internationally, and performing with Shaquille O’ Neal at the 2009 NBA All-Star Game. They are known for wearing plain white masks and gloves in order to encourage audiences to focus on their movements as a group instead of on individual dancers. Their name is derived from the Lewis Carroll poem “Jabberwocky” about the eponymous mythical dragon.

In May 2010, Jabbawockeez debuted their own live stage special at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theater in Las Vegas, entitled “MÜS.I.C”. The group described the special as “the audio-visual story of inspiration brought to life through the harmonization of sound and movement.”On July 28, 2010, the Jabbawockeez announced they would be returning to the strip for another performance run from Aug 19th – 25th. In September 2010, due to popular demand, the Jabbawockeez was signed by the Monte Carlo to perform five nights a week, replacing magician Lance Burton.

My kids and I have been following America’s Best Dance Crew since its debut and have loved every season, but the crew that we have loved the most has always remained the JABBAWOCKEEZ.

My youngest has remained a hardcore fan of theirs and I thought this would be a great opportunity to cross another thing off my Bucket List. How were we going to get tickets? Well, Mr T had received a tweet…..

For Real? So this is a game. John Quinn is somewhere in the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino. The first person to find him gets 2 JABBAWOCKEEZ tickets to that nights performance.

This is an example of why I love my husband. Do we know what this guy looks like? No. Is that going to stop us from trying? No.

We piled in the car and drove like the wind to the Monte Carlo.

(lets just say for all legal purposes that we obeyed all traffic laws and speed limits along the way)

ahem

We pulled up to the front of the hotel and like a James Bond hubby on a mission he tucked and rolled right out of the car and onto the casino floor without so much as a wrinkle. While I pulled the car around, he worked the casino floor. After scouring the hotel and being hit on by more than one man (you can read about his experience in his post about the hunt “Spontaneous Hack“), I got a phone call that we were clear to come in and pick up our tickets.

I thought he'd have a heart attack

We rushed to the theater and arrived with only minutes to spare. My son was so excited that he could barely stand it and I was excited to be able to share the experience with him. We took our seats and from the moment he realized how great our seats were, a grin was permanently plastered across his face.

He turned to me and said “Mom, this is awesome”. Before I could respond, a Jabbawockee had crept up behind him. He felt someone staring and turned to have a white mask in his face. He jumped and had to take a minute to compose himself before giving the Jabbawockee a high five. That personal experience with the show made his night!

The show began and my son and I were both in awe of the performances we saw. The music was consuming and we could feel the beats in our seats as we were hypnotized by the lights and rhythm. We were fans of the JABBAWOCKEEZ before, but we never expected the show to be as engaging and entertaining as it was. We were truly blown away. The show had us laughing from the moment our butts were in their seats and on through the comical tributes to the other Las Vegas Strip entertainers. From the moment the music began we were rocking in our seats with the music and were blown away by the performance.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to share this experience with my son. I’d like to thank Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino for being the home of such a fantastic show as well as John Quinn for giving us the opportunity to hunt him down. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my husband for being the man that he is. I love you.

This is a must-see show when visiting Las Vegas and one that I hope to be able to experience again with the rest of my family. Please take a moment to watch the video compilation of their season one performances from America’s Best Dance Crew and share your thoughts with me.
