Is it True?
My 13 year old daughter and I were studying Science the other day…….
“OMG!” – Yes people, she spells it out.
“What?”
“Is that true mom?”
“Is what true? Work with me here kid, I’m not a mind reader.”
“Is it true that a hecka long time ago people thought that the sun, other planets, and all the stars orbited around Earth?”
“Yes. Why?”
“Well that’s stupid.”
“Why is that stupid?”
“Because it obviously doesn’t. DUH! Everything revolves around the sun.”
“And you know that because, why?”
“I know that because I learned that in Science. Hello? and because I just know that.”
“Really? So you know all this because someone told you this and you’ve read it in a book.”
“Um…. yeah. I guess so.“
“Well maybe a long time ago, kids were taught that everything revolved around the Earth and so they just grew up believing that.”
She sat there quietly for a few moments. I noticed steam emerging from her ears as if she struggled through a thought and then….
“Well that’s just dumb.”
“Why is that dumb? “
“Because you have to be really self-centered to believe that everything revolves around you.”
I love my children. I love my children. I love my children. I love my children.

Out of the mouths of babes, right? Thanks so much for sharing this totally encouraging story about our youth of today!
You have precious kids my friends. One in a zillion!
Tell her dumb still exists. Rick Santorum who is running for president of the United States thinks global warming matter is a hoax.
That’s a good one. I’ve heard that from other politicians though.
Sounds like reasoned reasoning. Galileo would be proud.
Congrats on raising an independent thinker! She will go far in this world – maybe even to others if such technology exists then.
She is preceptive
Daughters rock, don’t they?
This sounds exactly like my 13 yr old, LOL. They can have such alien thoughts and then such brilliant ones. Gotta love them!
Reblogged this on Unique and Unpredictable and commented:
So funny and so true
Love how she refuses to back down.
There have been so many stupid things that people believed as fact. But in 100 years they’ll say the same thing about most of us.
Kids are exposed to so much more than we were. It’s amazing their heads don’t explode.
Or did it?
I just love how children say the smartest and most honest things that come to mind. Why do so many people want to change that? Something is so fundamentally wrong with the system if we seek to ‘fix’ what really isn’t broken.
Don’t most teenagers think the world revolves around them? I am glad to see that yours doesn’t…you may want to print that out and save it for a rainy day. Really. It could come in handy.
She does make a point that people in the past are dumb. But I do know many, many people in this life that are just plain dumb. I work with most of them. Good for her for being so observant. And you for instilling that in her!
Funny story! And to think we thought Pluto was a planet, too (hahahaha). Weren’t we dumb? Your daughter will know better
hello, thypolar,
