Please Whisper
Conversation with 13 while studying science……
“Oh my god, are we close to the Milky Way?” - 13 asked frantically.
I looked around the room, already knowing where this was headed.
“Well, you could say that.” - Me
I couldn’t help but smile.
“Are you serious? Like how close are we talkin’ here?” – Now she’s worried.
In my best “valley girl” accent I said “like so close that we are “in it” close”
“Are you serious right now?” - her eyes get all big.
“Yes I’m serious. What’s with the big eyed drama?” - At this point I had to know.
“I just read that the Milky Way Galaxy has a super massive black hole in the center of it. And you’re saying we are in the Milky Way? WE COULD GET SUCKED UP!!! I hate studying all this planet crap.” - She storms out of the room all teary eyed.
Yes, she’s my daughter.
She is the epitome of every blonde joke you’ve ever heard.
She is, in fact, blonde.
Yes, I still claim her as mine.
When in the same room with her and discussing anything that could possibly lead to the end of the world (alien invasion, viral outbreak, zombie apocalypse), please whisper. Just trust me on this.

At least she’s showing some sort of concern for the planet.
Mine would care less. As long as the video games are saved.
I have a daughter who I’ll probably have some similar moments with…
Whispering …
Baaahahaha.. poor child.
If you think about it…she does have a point. Maybe it’s the rest of us who aren’t alarmed enough?
You can tease her with “I can see 93 million miles away.” When challenged “I can see the sun, can’t I.”
Bet you with the fear of the end of the world, one day she turns around and saves it.
Great story!
Thanks for dropping by my site. This was priceless! Aliens, a viral outbreak, and the Z-apocalypse scares me too, but hey, what can you do???… LOL #Prepare
My two daughters are a little beyond this stage now, but oh, how well I remember the goings-on in active and growing young minds! Thanks for the trip back in time!
Ha ha…. its time to embrace the situation and take this show on the road.
Please come to my city.
My son is the same way. He has always had a doom and gloom what-if sensibility. when he was younger, he was always worried about the world ending. Now that he’s an adult and can see for himself that the world is not in the greatest shape financially, politically ecologically, I suppose he’s had a point all along! He is the type who will probably try to do something about it. Maybe your daughter will, too – although keeping us from being sucked through a black whole might be kind of difficult! lol
Ha! That’s funny!
She sounds like me!!
Awwww… that sort of thing is a serious exploration for a young mind, coming to terms with the unknown or its periphery. Durn black holes like to swallee up the swirling stuff, and hey…. ten billion or so years from now, it might have a taste for Earth. Pass the mustard.
This is so cute it put a genuine smile on my face. Your daughter sounds like an amazing girl. Hopefully, she stays this way. A little fantasy, imagination and naivety is good for all of us.
I have a 76 year-old neighbor JUST LIKE THIS, I regret to tell you. So you have lots of years to enjoy this type of angst with your daughter!
Poor dear! Hahahaha (sorry 13, couldn’t help it).
What a cute kid!
She can study science….awesome!
I am doing the happy dance over homework…and that it is sinking in…
Red.
