If you see one show in your entire life, make it Absinthe!” – Huffington Post
Can I get an AMEN?!?
The hubby and I have seen Absinthe twice and are hoping to head back for a third time soon. Absinthe Las Vegas is located in Spiegelworld, which is in the front yard (Roman Plaza) of Ceaser’s Palace Hotel and Casino. Spiegelworld is part adult carnival, part beer garden and part cabaret variety show that is performed in the round with up close and personal views of the cast and acts.
The first time around we went on our own not knowing what to expect and we arrived at the perfect time.
We got in line to enter the tent and thankfully, the line passes right by the bar and the hubby was able to get us a couple of drinks. The bartender was heavy handed so they tasted fantastic and it didn’t take me long to get my buzz on.
The show was fantastic, and even though all of the acts are sensual and done very tastefully, the comedy provided by the host, The Gazillionaire, in between acts is not for the light hearted or insecure. He pulls his sexual innuendos and crude one-liners from inspiration he gets from the audience. There were a few gay couples in the front row that were the center of quite a few of his jokes. If the couples weren’t gay, the host sure had you believing that they were. These men were laughing so hard at what was happening that I have to believe they missed most of what he had said.
At one point in the show, The Gazillionaire asked if anyone wanted some free drinks. These were not just any free drinks though…this was Absinthe we were talking about. Hands shot up in the air and the tent was filled with whistles and drunken hollars for more alcohol. The host pulls up a gay man from the first row and asks him where his boyfriend had gone. He apparently had to pee. With that, he asked for a female volunteer who would be willing to kiss a gay man for some free drinks. A women found her way up on stage but was too embarrassed to really say or do anything. The host told her she was boring and that she needed to get the hell off his stage. It was hilarious.
Our second trip was with friends and we enjoyed it just as much. This is a show you can see again and again.
The acrobatic stunts were phenomenal. The fact that the show is done in a small tent and the audience is so involved in what’s happening is what made the experience that much better. The women who perform are gorgeous. Stripping down to costumed panties and pasties, they left a lot to the imagination but showed enough to give the show its sexy reputation. The beautifully talented Penny Pibbets is AMAZING! It’s definitely a must see show for anyone confident enough in themselves to walk through the curtains and open minded enough to appreciate the humor in it all.
Absinthe briefly left Las Vegas but returned October 2011. I was told there are a few changes that were made. How this show could get any better, I have no clue but I can’t wait to get back to Spiegelworld and find out!
